Bears' Urlacher Has Surgery, Out For Season

LAKE FOREST, IL - Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher will miss the remainder of the 2009 season after undergoing surgery to repair a dislocated wrist Monday.

Urlacher was hurt during the second quarter of Sunday's season-opener against Green Bay and left early in the second half. The 31-year-old has appeared in each of the last 65 games for the Bears and has recorded at least 100 tackles in each of the last nine seasons.

He was placed on injured reserve later Monday, and the Bears replaced him on the roster with linebacker Tim Shaw, who signed a one-year contract.

"Those are some big shoes to fill, but (Urlacher) will come back next year strong as ever," said Bears head coach Lovie Smith.

He had three tackles, including one for a loss, before the injury. It is only the second major injury Urlacher has suffered in his 10-year career, as he missed seven games in 2004.

Veteran linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer replaced Urlacher on Sunday and could see extended action in the lineup.
